What other names did your parents consider for you?
After the Patrick/Patricia debacle, and before the baby name book became necessary, they considered Ethel (after my father's mother), Agnes (after my father's grandmother), and Catherine (after my mother's sister).
My Mom decided that Ethel and Agnes were too old fashioned and cruel. I came this close to being Catherine, but apparently my Mom and her older (by a year) sister were having a bit of a rough patch and weren't speaking to one another.
My Mom actually had two sisters, but as far as I know, Evelyn, was never considered as a potential name for me. Given that out of respect to my mother I refer to my aunt as 'Evelyn the Whore', it was a very good thing.
