qotd: in case of emergency
Who is your Alert In Case Of Emergency person?
My ICE is byron, but if you have been paying attention you probably aren't surprised. Sometimes I worry what happens if something were to happen to both of us, but the truth is that then it probably wouldn't matter.
Honestly I am only posting this as a reminder to anyone out there with a cell phone. Take a moment to create an entry called "ICE", and add the person you would want called if you were to be found and unable to speak for yourself. It only takes three minutes and hopefully you will never need to use it.
This is also a good time to take a moment and think about your ICE contact information at work and where you live (if you rent or live in a building where they might have such information on file). Has that person recently moved or changed their phone number? Let your HR department and/or building management know. Again, something that will only take a few minutes, and again something hopefully you won't need to use, but will make a difference if you do.
Finally, if you are someone's ICE (like say your for your parents or siblings or other significant other), have you recently moved or changed your phone number(s)? If yes, remind these people to update their information as appropriate. I only say this because as my Mom didn't, it took the authorities over a week to track me down after she died. This despite that a neighbor informed them that I was living in another state and that I had actually called my mother but opted not to leave a message when she didn't answer the phone.
