Show us something you made.

This is the famous 'crack cake'. Very addictive. Impossible to eat just one piece. And evil recipe makes two loaves. At least you can give one loaf away.

Once the lemons on the tree ripen, I plan on making more. It is perfect with tea.

Rarely do I hang my own photos on my own wall. I have used them for various projects and of course posted them on the Internet, but it just feels weird to me for some reason to have my walls filled with my work. This photo I hope is the exception.

I took this for my final project for a photography class that I took at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. This really captured how I was feeling then. We had the opportunity to print our work using some pretty high tech printers. One of them was about the size of a large cubicle! Some of the photos we saw printed on it were stunning.

Knowing though that we were moving, I decided to wait. Getting this one printed (large scale) and framed is on my increasingly growing list of things to do once we settle down. I'd like to hang it somewhere so I can watch people's reaction to it. I think that might be fun.

Thousands of cars and people pass by this place every day. I am sure very few even realize that these flowers are there. To be fair, it is not a very long stretch, and people zoom by legally at 35mph. I bet most don't even notice this:

Books: Show us a great children's book.

There truly are many wonderful children's book out there these days. Many are works of art too. And they certainly are not just for children - that is an unfortunate myth that I would like to dispel. Sometimes all of us benefit from having things explained in straightforward manner. We need to know that the good guy wins and everyone lives happily ever after.

Maybe that is what is wrong with people in general these days. We have forgotten the simple lessons of life. We have forgotten to appreciate what we have and enjoy the little things. But most importantly we have forgotten that dreams can come true. That impossible things can and do happen. We should all try and think up five (impossible things) before breakfast each and every day.

And with that, here are (a few) of my favorite books that I encourage children of all ages to read:

flutter bug

This was taken way back in August 2005. Can you guess that this is in downtown Chicago? Well, Millennium Park to be more specific. I love butterflies, but they are really hard to catch on your camera. I followed this one around for over an hour.

I took this for my photography class final project which was about saying goodbye to Chicago. I think it when I finally admitted to myself how much I loved that city. Once we settle, I will have a large version of this made, and it will hang proudly on my wall.
